Mumbai: In a pivotal move towards launching its satellite broadband services in India, Starlink, a subsidiary of SpaceX, has initiated its first recruitment drive in the country.
The company, led by Elon Musk, has advertised various job openings on LinkedIn and its official careers page. The roles available include positions in finance and accounting, such as tax manager, accounting manager, payments manager, and senior treasury analyst, all based in Bengaluru, which serves as Starlink's operational hub in India.
According to the job listing, Starlink is seeking an accounting manager to manage financial reporting and ensure compliance as it expands its global satellite broadband services.
The role will involve developing and enhancing accounting, reporting, and compliance systems to support Starlink's operations in India. Notably, the company has specified that only local applicants with valid work authorization will be considered, with no remote or hybrid work options available.
Starlink is gearing up for the commercial launch of its satellite internet services, expected in late 2025 or early 2026. The company is currently working on establishing ground infrastructure and conducting necessary security trials as per government regulations.
Earlier, Starlink demonstrated its broadband service to officials in Mumbai to meet the Department of Telecommunications' (DoT) requirements for lawful interception and security compliance before receiving spectrum allocation.
Reports indicate that the company has also sought permission to set up three gateway stations in Mumbai, Chennai, and Noida, with plans to establish an additional nine to ten gateway locations in cities like Chandigarh, Kolkata, and Lucknow after the launch.
Once operational, Starlink will compete with Jio Satellite and Eutelsat OneWeb, both of which have received regulatory approvals but are still waiting for final spectrum allocation.
The DoT and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) are still finalizing the frameworks for satellite broadband spectrum pricing and allocation.
